Charging a Car Battery the Right Way

Richmond Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ltd. would like to take a few minutes of your time today to explain in detail the correct process for charging the battery in your car.

Before you can start the process, it is important that you are familiar with the charger and it is not powered on or plugged into an electrical outlet just yet.

Identify the positive and negative ends of the car battery, and if they are not easily recognized, you may have to remove the plastic housing on the terminal ends to reveal the plus and minus sign markings.

Secure the red cable to the plus side battery terminal, and then the black cable to the minus side battery terminal. Once you are certain the two cables are secure, it is safe to plug the charger into the outlet.

With the charger powered on, you'll either wait for the unit to turn off when charged or monitor the volts meter and remove when fully charged.
